World Class Straw-Clutching

Dick Puddlecote

Last week’s publication of the Australian government’s inquiry into e-cigs was, as I wrote last Saturday, remarkable for the bravery of Aussie vapers in submitting their stories of use in a country where possession of nicotine without a prescription is a crime.

However, as evidence mounts up worldwide as to the benefits of e-cigs, renowned fossilised Sydney moonhowler Simon Chapman continues, Canute-like, to spread as much doubt as he can possibly muster while all around him others slowly back away from his lunacy.

Remember all our hard work in Brussels?

Vaping Point

By 2013, us vapers and smokers were working hard – HARD! Our guts were pouring out in the end. Some of us just collapsed under the strain. Other stubborn ones carried on. They are still at it! I thank them all for fighting so hard – the vapoteurs united! Every single small action by a ton of ordinary folk led to a tsunami of citizens across the European Union trying to change our future as the death knell sounded for US by decree from World Rulers – Tobacco Control.

Scrapping EU vaping laws

Would improve health and boost the economy – Andrew Allison

The e-cigarette market was, until recently, perhaps the closest thing we had to a genuine free market. A relative lack of regulation, compared to what it is now, allowed the market to innovate in ways we seldom see. As the vast majority of those using e-cigarettes are either current or former smokers, the innovations also have huge health benefits. According to the Royal College of Physicians, e-cigarettes are at least 95 per cent safer than combustible tobacco, and Public Health England has acknowledged that they are the number one quit aid in the country.

Completely Out Of Control

Frank Davis

One thing that strikes me about Tobacco Control, and their attempt to take control, is just how out of control everything actually is.

After all, we’re all living on the surface of a little, spinning, roughly-spherical planet which is in the company of a bunch of other planets eddying around a very, very hot star. And this solar system is completely out of control.

Is vapor also unhealthy for lungs?

Chris Price, Quora

Anything that is not pure air is unhealthy for the lungs and the system in general – apart from a small amount of water vapour, which the lungs are designed to cope with. Pure air, though, is currently only available up a mountain and mid-ocean, since we polluted everywhere else.

Vaping is several orders of magnitude safer than smoking cigarettes. Exactly how many orders of magnitude (10x) depends on your mode of use.

AMA submission on vaping ‘appalling’

Every time he vapes (which is often), Brian is breaking the law. He feels as though he is being punished for quitting smoking, despite having a better quality of life since taking up e-cigarettes. The government has launched an inquiry into e-cigarettes, but there are allegations of misleading submissions – including from the Australian Medical Association (AMA).

Why American vapers should say no

To (most) medical studies – Jim McDonald

About two weeks ago, a Reddit post asked for help on a research study at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. A researcher needed vapers to take part as paid volunteers.

“I am a study coordinator at Johns Hopkins University,” the post began. “Our study, VAPORS, is researching the long term effects of e-cigarettes/vapes on our participant’s oral, lung, and cardiovascular health. We are looking for participants who use e-cigs but do not smoke cigarettes….

Delaware is imposing a tax on vaping

Diane Caruana – Vaping Post

House Bill 242, was signed by Governor John C. Carney Jr. on the 3rd of July 2017, and will place vaping products under the same umbrella as regular tobacco products, hence impose the same taxes and licensing requirements on e-cigarette manufacturers and sellers as on those who deal with combustible tobacco products.

Smokers Switching to Vaping

See 66% Respiratory Improvements – Robert Morgen

Confusion and misconceptions exist about vaping. This is especially true for its ability to help those who want to quit smoking cigarettes. Many assume that because nicotine is delivered that is just as bad as smoking cigarettes. While both contain nicotine, they are very different products. Vaping is newer and while it hasn’t been around as long as smoking cigarettes, it has been heavily studied.

College of Psychiatrists endorse e-cigs

Rose Brennan

E-CIGARETTES have been backed by Australian health professionals for the first time as experts warn they are desperately needed to help smokers quit.

And convenience stores are now lobbying to be able to sell the products which are illegal in Australia despite widespread use.

E-cigarettes help resolve inmate issues

Erin Schmitt

Mosley’s CrossBar Electronic Cigarettes supplies specially designed e-cigarettes to the Henderson County Detention Center, as well as to other jails and detention centers across the United States. Contraband issues at the Henderson facility have decreased drastically since they were introduced there about three years ago, said Jailer Amy Brady.

‘No Smoking’ Applies to E-Cigs on Flights

Andrew M Harris

Vaping is smoking, a federal appeals court ruled, upholding regulation that adds e-cigarettes to an existing ban on the use of traditional tobacco-burning products on commercial flights in the U.S.

The decision Friday by the Washington-based court leaves in place the Department of Transportation’s new rule barring e-cigarettes in flight to protect people from the devices’ second-hand vapor.

Government intervention

In the e-cigarette industry on both sides of the Atlantic

Since their launch back in 2004, e-cigarettes have grown enormously in popularity, across the globe. The growth of vaping, across all age groups and social demographics, is nothing short of phenomenal, and companies from small startups to multi-billion dollar corporates are clamouring to get a slice of the e-cigarette market. Since both the US and the UK operate more or less free market economies, it comes as no surprise that the e-cig market has developed so successfully over the last 13 years.

WHO has flawed info on e-cigs

Local antitobacco groups should realize that the WHO is not infallible and repeating wrong information on e-cigarettes will not make it correct. The WHO, which believes that the only way to reduce smoking is for smokers to ‘quit or die,’ should open its eyes to the evidence and consider the potential for new technologies, such as e-cigarettes, to reduce smoking-related harms,” said Tom Pinlac, president of The Vapers Philippines.

Nicotine in the News – 24 July

Harry Shapiro

Since attending the 2016 GFN Conference in Warsaw, I have heard all sorts of dark tales about the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), the Framework Convention Alliance (FCA) and the Conference of the Parties (COP). The FCTC adopted by the 56th World Health Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland on 21 May 2003 came into force in 2005 and seeks “to protect present and future generations from the devastating health, social, environmental and economic consequences of tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke”.

On this Day…2016

A look back at how things have moved on or otherwise….

9 Opponents Who Want to Kill Vaping

Jim McDonald – Vaping 360

The public health arm of the United Nations got into the anti-vapinggame early, according to Amelia Howard, a PhD candidate at the University of Waterloo (Ontario) who studies the social history ofvaping technology. “The WHO was first to set the tone for all future dismissals of the effectiveness of e-cigarettes as helpful for quitting,” says Howard….

7124 Participants

Dr Farsalinos

“7124 PARTICIPANTS” is a study of patterns of electronic cigarette use among vapers in Malaysia.

The number refers to the 7,124 people who took part in the study, making it almost certainly the largest of its kind carried out anywhere in the Asia-Pacific region. The research took place in the first half of 2016 and the results made public late July 2016.

Disinformation from anti-vaping activists

More harmful than from tobacco industry – Clive Bates – Vaping Post

Clive Bates, British consultant and former director of the Action of Smoking and Health (ASH), is a key player in the defense of free vaping in Europe. In exclusivity for The Vaping Post, he is commenting on the Royal College of Physicians’ (RCP) report and on what is currently driving changes in the legislative and policy framework of the e-cigarette.
