Hiding the Vaping Habit

With over 5.6 million vapers in the UK, have you wondered how many still hide their habit from their families? New data from Vape Superstore, which surveyed 1,400 of its customers, reveals Britain’s secret vaping habits. Amazingly, a third of parents don’t know their adult children vape.

KLAR Advice for Jetting Abroad

As Brits jet off in search of summer sun, many are getting caught out by a little-known travel trap, the growing list of countries banning or restricting nicotine pouches and vapes. With over 590,000 pouch users in the UK and the disposable vape ban now underway, KLAR’s Chief Risk Reduction Officer, Tomas Hammargren, has pulled together five essential tips to help holidaymakers avoid fines, confiscation or worse, and travel smarter this summer.

Gateway Myth Returns

An observational study out from the University of Michigan and published in Tobacco Control looks at teen smoking rates in three UK birth cohorts before and after vape use and touts the gateway myth again. Harm reduction experts have been swift to highlight the flaws in the research.

Agenda Confirms Anti-Vape Hostility

The agenda for the 11th iteration of the Conference of Parties (COP11) confirms the World Health Organization’s (WHO) hostility towards tobacco harm reduction, according to the World Vapers’ Alliance. The organisation says the preliminary agenda for COP11 confirms that instead of facilitating a balanced, science-led discussion on how to reduce smoking-related deaths, the WHO and the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) Secretariat have opted for an ideologically charged and exclusionary approach.

When Good Intentions Go Wrong: How The UK’s Hardline Vape Measures are Backfiring

Diane Caruana, Vaping Post

In the weeks following the UK’s nationwide ban on disposable vapes, in line with warnings by tobacco harm reduction experts, new findings suggest that the policy is already facing serious challenges and could ultimately pose unintended threats to public health. An undercover investigation by online nicotine company Haypp found that 23% of vape retailers across nine UK cities were still selling disposable vapes illegally, despite the ban having come into effect on June 1st.

Another Study Shows Unintended Consequences of Flavor Bans

Lindsey Stroud, Tobacco Harm Reduction 101 (THR101)

A new study published in JAMA Network Open adds to the growing body of evidence that statewide bans on flavored e-cigarettes may be producing unintended—and harmful—consequences for tobacco control. Rather than simply curbing vaping among youth, these policies appear to correlate with increased combustible cigarette use, particularly among young adults.

The researchers analyzed data from two major Centers for Disease Control and Prevention surveys: the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). The YRBS is conducted biennially among U.S. high school students and tracks various health risk behaviors, including tobacco and vapor product use.
