The Smoking Toolkit Study, based at University College London, provides ongoing analysis of the data related to vaping, and has provided new insight into vape trends. Run by Professors Vera Buss, Loren Kock, Robert West, Emma Beard, Dimitra Kale and Jamie Brown, the academics believe it is important to track vaping and assess how far they appear to be promoting or detracting from reduction in prevalence of cigarette smoking.

US doctors are being urged to discuss vapes with adult smokers who want to quit, as tobacco researchers say the evidence supporting their use has strengthened considerably in recent years.
New recommendations published in JAMA say nicotine vapes should be included in conversations about evidence-based ways to stop smoking, alongside established treatments such as nicotine patches and gum, varenicline and bupropion.
The guidance comes from researchers in the Treatment Research Network of the Society for Research on Nicotine & Tobacco, an international professional organisation focused on nicotine and tobacco science.

Almost 96 per cent of vapes bought in Australia may be coming from the illicit market, according to research that raises fresh questions over whether the country’s pharmacy-only sales model is working.
A survey of 4,000 recent nicotine consumers by criminologist James Martin estimated that 95.7 per cent of vapes purchased were illicit, leaving only a small fraction apparently being bought through legal channels.
The findings come as Australia continues to restrict legal vape sales to pharmacies, while cigarettes remain widely available from ordinary retailers.
