SFS Slams the Tax

Smoke Free Sweden (SFS) has joined the World Vapers’ Alliance in expressing its serious concerns about Poland’s newly approved plan to tax nicotine pouches and vaping devices at similar rates that are applied to traditional tobacco cigarettes. The Council of Ministers endorsed a draft law that could, starting this July and August, impose steep excise duty on reduced-harm alternatives, and SFS says this will undermine efforts to lower the country’s smoking rates.

One in 20 are Dual Users

One in 20 adults in England are dual-users, people who both smoke and vape, according to a new study by University College London (UCL) researchers. The paper, published in the journal Addiction and funded by Cancer Research UK, looked at survey data between 2016 and 2024. It found that the proportion of people both smoking and vaping rose from 3.5% (about one in 30) to 5.2% (about one in 20) during this period, with a sharp rise from 2021, when disposable e-cigarettes first became popular.

There are over 100 million users worldwide of safer nicotine products (SNP). Many will have struggled to find the right option for themselves, friends or family, or any option at all. Many will have obtained nicotine products illegally, smuggled into the country or bought under the counter.

The Western War on Vaping

Is Harming Public Health – Theo Menon

Most people who work on the topic of tobacco harm reduction are aware of the potential advantages of e-cigarettes in helping adults who smoke break their deadly smoking habit. Experts in the field often repeat the conclusions from Britain’s top public-health agency (Public Health England), which found that vaping is at least 95 percent less harmful than smoking combustible cigarettes.
