How Clean Is Your Pouch?

Nicotine pouch use has more than doubled since 2020, with the market hitting £131 million last year—an 82% increase—and searches for ‘nicotine pouch’ up 74% over the last year*. Recent reports from Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) estimate that over 500,000 adults in Great Britain use nicotine pouches regularly. The act of putting a fresh pouch in or touching your gums frequently means hygiene plays an important role.

Trade Body Responds to Umbrella Study

Last week, Planet of the Vapes detailed how a new study, published in Tobacco Control, claiming to be “the largest review to date of research studies on vaping”, claimed to have found “that teenagers and young adults who start using e-cigarettes may be around three times more likely to go on to smoke tobacco”. The UK Vaping Industry Association has issued its response to the work.

Another Boss Fined

Another shop boss has been fined for the sale and supply of illegal vapes following another raid and seizure by Oxfordshire Trading Standards officers. Marewan Salh, the former owner of Khalifa Super Store Ltd, 120 Cowley Road, Oxford, was found guilty at Oxford Magistrates’ Court and fined.

The Department for Health and Social (DHSC) Care Resources team is advising interested parties that Stoptober 2025 resources are available to view and download from the Campaign Resource Centre. These resources can be used by anybody helping smoking cessation attempts – including ones being made through the use of vapes.

Dr. Michael Siegel, The Rest Of The Story

Taylor Millard has written a very nice piece at Inside Sources which reports the results of a new survey showing that a tragically low percentage of physicians are providing smokers with the facts about less harmful alternatives to smoking. This he attributes to the failure of the FDA as well as anti-tobacco organizations to endorse harm reduction, but instead to take a prohibition approach.

A Personal Victory, A Public Contradiction: The Truth About Tobacco Harm Reduction

Ziauddin Islam, Ziauddin Islam’s Post

Today, I came across a post that stopped me in my tracks. Tony Newman , Director at Vital Strategies shared a deeply personal story of triumph—how nicotine pouches helped him quit smoking. It’s a powerful testament to the life-changing potential of tobacco harm reduction tools. For Tony, this was more than a product; it was a lifeline to a healthier future. His courage to share such a personal journey deserves applause. 👏

But here’s where the story takes a troubling turn. Vital Strategies, along with other Bloomberg Philanthropies-funded organizations, has actively campaigned *against* tobacco harm reduction globally.
