New Global Vape Alliance Unveiled
A new Global Vape Alliance has been announced today alongside an historic ground-breaking declaration to foster collaboration, promote responsible practices, and champion the cause of harm reduction in the vaping industry. The Alliance brings together major international vaping bodies including the Electronic Cigarette Industry Committee of the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce (ECCC), the US Vapor Technology Association (VTA), the UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) and the Independent European Vape Alliance (IEVA).
The Declaration aims to underscore the power of unity within the vaping industry. By coming together under its umbrella, industry leaders will commit to effecting responsible and positive change on a global scale…
Russians Switching But Face Ban
Russian smokers are swapping their tobacco cigarettes from reduced harm vapes in their droves, according to the latest data available from the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat). The leap to the safer alternative mirrors the rest of the world but comes at a time when vapes are inexplicably under attack by authorities in Russia with a complete ban on flavoured products slated for March 1, 2024.
As reported by Business Petersburg, the switch to vaping has driven a 1.9x increase in the decline of smoking when comparing sales across January to June with the same period the previous year, according to the data published in the unified interdepartmental information and statistical system.
More lies about e-cigarettes
Christopher Snowdon
Nearly every word of this Daily Mail article is a lie.
A doctor has warned that vaping is ‘barbequing your lungs’ and increases the risk of lung transplants in young people.
Dr Brian Boxer Wachler, an eye surgeon in Beverly Hills, California, took to TikTok last week to explain why vaping is more dangerous than smoking cigarettes.
‘Vape temperatures can be significantly hotter than cigarette smoke, so vape literally could be barbequing your lungs,’ he said in the video, which has 6.3 million views.
Cigarettes combust at 800°C whereas vapour is heated to around 200°C so this is not a good start. Anyone who has ever vaped and smoked can tell that smoke is hotter than vapour. Maybe people shouldn’t get their information from Californians on Tik Tok?

Raise Your Voice: Join the Fight…
For a Better Vaping Regulation in Canada! – WVA
The Government of Canada is seeking comments on its Tobacco and Vaping Products Act (TVPA) and has recently launched a consultation in which it asks “those with lived and living experiences of tobacco use” to participate. Effectively, the TVPA banned a wide array of vaping flavours, a measure that may have several negative unintended consequences for public health. You know how important flavours are! That is why we need your voice to be heard more than ever now. We need you to stand up against flavour restrictions endangering smoking cessation efforts in Canada and ask the Government of Canada to follow an open approach towards alternative nicotine products.
Your participation in the upcoming consultation is crucial to ensure the rights and choices of Canadian vapers are protected. The consultation ends November 3rd! We hereafter provide a guide on why it is important that you participate and how you can do it!
Two from Colin Mendelsohn:
NSW Health vape crackdown is a sham
NSW HEALTH launched a crackdown on illegal vapes today and a plan to support young people addicted to vaping. While well intended, it is the wrong approach, is grounded in misinformation and won’t work.
Young people should not smoke or vape. We all want to protect children, but this is bad policy based on emotion, moral values and political virtue signalling, and will have predictable and harmful unintended consequences. Below are just some of the issues raised by this announcement.
“A crackdown on illegal vape sellers”
This kneejerk solution simply won’t work. There is a rampant black market controlled by criminal gangs selling illegal Chinese vapes to adults and children. A crackdown will only drive the market and the criminal networks underground. When there is a demand for a product, people will find a way of getting it. More here.
Switching from smoking to vaping
Dramatically reduces cancer risk
Cigarette smoke is deadly and contains at least 69 known carcinogens (cancer-causing chemicals), many in high doses. The main carcinogens in smoke are listed in the APPENDIX at the bottom of this page.
Most carcinogens are broken down to other chemicals in the body, known as ‘biomarkers’. The dose or level of a biomarker is what determines its cancer risk. This is the key principle of ‘the dose makes the poison‘.
By comparing the levels of cancer biomarkers from smoking and vaping we can compare the cancer risk from smoking versus vaping.
Nearly 7 in 10 American Doctors…
Mistakenly Believe Nicotine Causes Lung Cancer
Nearly 7 in 10 U.S. doctors mistakenly attribute the negative health consequences of smoking to nicotine, directly jeopardizing advancements made in helping smokers quit, a survey funded by a Foundation for a Smoke-Free World grant has found.
Sermo, an independent platform and leader in actionable healthcare professional insights, surveyed more than 15,000 doctors online in 11 countries (China, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, South Africa, United Kingdom, and the United States).
The pitfalls of raising taxes on vaping
Michael Landl
As more people choose vaping as an alternative to smoking, discussions surrounding its regulation and taxation have become hot-button issues worldwide, and South Africa is no exception. One prevalent topic is the idea of raising taxes on vaping products.
While the intention might be to address public health concerns and generate state revenue, it is essential to critically examine the potential pitfalls of such a move.
In a recent op-ed published in The Conversation, Professors Nicole Vellios and Corne van Walbeek articulated reservations regarding the South African government’s prevailing tax proposal.
2GB’s Ben Fordham calls it:
Stopping illegal vapes is like ‘stopping the wind’, and it’s time to regulate them
Brian Marlow, Legalise Vaping
The penny is dropping. Australia’s top-rating talkback host this morning made the case for authorities, admitting the black market in illegal vaping products is out of control.
He said: “They’re not going to be able to stop the vapes. It’s like trying to stop the waves or the wind. They are here to stay. So you’re better off just saying all right, let’s treat them like cigarettes – which means we tax them, we regulate them, and we have a say over what’s in them and the conditions of their sale.”
Marketing restrictions, product standards, licenses for retailers, and heavy fines for selling to minors – these are the answers to cleaning up the black market that is selling to Australian youths.

ETHRA Flags Up Dutch Flavour Fight
Dave Cross, POTV
Consumer umbrella organisation ETHRA (European Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates) is asking if the proposed restrictions on e-liquid flavours signals the end of vaping in the Netherlands. It comes as the Netherlands Government introduced a public consultation to mark the final stage of the legislative process.
ETHRA says it “promotes discussion and the exchange of information and potential actions to reduce exposure to tobacco-related harm. ETHRA complements existing organisations by offering European advocates a platform for exchanging information (particularly at European policy level) and for sharing experiences and local initiatives, in support of tobacco harm reduction.”
Final Dutch Consultation on Vape Flavors
Ends Sept. 28th – Jim McDonald
Vaping consumers and advocates have less than a week to take part in the Dutch government’s brief public consultation on a vape product flavor ban likely to put current manufacturers out of business next year. The deadline for making comments is Sept. 28.
The new law, which will ban all vape flavors except tobacco, is scheduled to take effect Jan. 1, 2023—although products already on the market by Dec. 31 can be sold until July 1, 2023. The law will ban flavors in both nicotine-containing and zero-nicotine e-liquids, and applies to bottled e-liquid and prefilled products.
