IBVTA Responds to plain packaging demand

The Independent British Vape Trade Association (the IBVTA) has reacted to the plain packaging proposals being pushed forward by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH). Resulting from a research paper ASH was involved in, ASH argues that plain packaging would reduce the number of teens taking up vaping while not impacting adult smokers or vapers.

UKVIA Responds to Plain Packaging Demand

Yesterday, Planet of the Vapes revealed how Action on Smoking and Health has misrepresented its own data to push for plain packaging for vapes. The “anti-smoking” charity believes the move will not prevent smokers switching away from tobacco to vaping, the UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) disagrees, arguing that robust enforcement of current legislation ought to be the priority.

EU Pushing Vape Misinformation

The European Commission’s official statement that “new nicotine products” have health risks comparable to smoking marks a new level of misinformation, says the World Vapers’ Alliance. Commissioner Varhelyi confirmed this in a written answer to a question from Members of Parliament. By choosing ideology and ignoring scientific evidence, the Commission misleads millions of smokers and former smokers.

Outlandish, Irresponsible, and Factually Absurd

At a combined US Department of Health & Human Services (HSS), Department of Justice (DOJ), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) press conference, a number of “outlandishly irresponsible and factually absurd claims” were made in relation to a vape crackdown. The American Vapor Manufacturers organisation said “it mocked the President’s promise to save flavoured vaping and cast ordinary American vapers and small businesses as villains”.

SFS Continues “Tax Raid” Opposition

“Don’t tax smokers out of life-saving alternatives,” says the Smoke Free Sweden movement, pointing to the recent letter signed by 83 leading international health experts. The health expert coalition issued a stark warning to the European Commission: imposing high taxes on safer nicotine alternatives will protect the cigarette trade, keep smokers smoking and cost lives.
