Parliament Matters

In this week’s Parliament Matters, the Opposition Whip is worried about the low price of very high puff-count vapes. A Labour MP in Portsmouth wants to know how the government she works for is tackling illegal vapes. Lastly, another Labour MP would like to see vapes provided to help smokers quit.

ETHRA Writes to EU Health Commissioner

The European Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates (ETHRA) organisation has written to the Health Commissioner of the European Union regarding vapes and so-called ‘popcorn lung’. Health Commissioner Varhelyi repeated the misinformation that vaping causes bronchiolitis obliterans – it doesn’t.

WHO’s Anti-Vaping Threat

World Vape Day took place on 30th May, and the World Vapers’ Alliance (WVA) called out the World Health Organization (WHO) for ignoring science and putting millions of lives at risk with its ongoing crusade against vaping and other harm reduction technologies. While the WHO prepared for its annual World No Tobacco Day on 31 May, the World Vapers’ Alliance said it continues to push outdated narratives and policies that actively undermine global efforts to end smoking.

Adopt Swedish Policies

On World No Tobacco Day, Smoke Free Sweden urged global policymakers to adopt Sweden’s successful tobacco harm reduction strategies that have virtually wiped-out smoking. It told them that Sweden’s policies, built around safer smokeless alternatives, have saved thousands of lives, contrasting sharply with moves in countries like Spain and France that are planning to restrict access to reduced-risk nicotine products.
