Panama Ban Challenged

Panama’s vape ban has been challenged by the Panamanian Tobacco Harm Reduction Association and accepted by the Panamanian Supreme Court of Justice. The consumer advocacy organisation contends that the prohibition is unconstitutional and regional experts are hoping that the weight of evidence in favour of vaping and tobacco harm reduction will win the day.

ASA Rules Against Elfbar

The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled against Flavour Warehouse Ltd, trading as Elfbar, as a result of complaints being made concerning one of its adverts on the Internet. In total, ten separate issues were investigated, all of which were the Advertising Standards Authority upheld.

BAT Advocates For Facial Recognition

Responding to a marketplace that is meeting with increasing levels of hostility from politicians, British American Tobacco (BAT) has listed out its five key proposals for vape regulations. In what will raise eyebrows in some quarters, the tobacco giant has suggested that retail outlets operate vape sales by licence only and “facial recognition technologies should be seriously considered”.

Here we continue the Copwatch guide to the documents provided to ‘educate’ national delegations at the COP10 conference in November, with a look at FCTC/COP/10/4.

Produced by the Convention Secretariat, the subject for the report is ‘Global progress in implementation of the WHO FCTC’. The report is based on data submitted by the Parties (countries) and measures their progress in implementing the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Treaty into their national policy and regulatory frameworks.
