The EU Is Stepping Backwards

Europe risks falling behind in the fight against smoking as the UK and Sweden drive down cigarette use through safer alternatives, according to international public health expert Dr Mark Tyndall. In a powerful endorsement of smoke-free nicotine products, Dr Tyndall said vaping was designed to replace cigarettes by removing the harmful chemicals responsible for smoking-related disease.

Vaping Products Duty Applications Open

HM Revenue and Customs says UK businesses should apply now for Vaping Products Duty and Vaping Duty Stamps Scheme approval if they wish to continue trading. The application process opened up on 1 April for manufacturers, importers and warehousekeepers. The government has provided guidance on what businesses need to do, key dates, and who is responsible across the supply chain.

TPD Attacked

The European Commission stands accused of undermining its own smoke-free ambitions and putting millions of lives at risk by targeting safer nicotine alternatives that are helping smokers to quit. The World Vapers Alliance and Smoke-Free Sweden have both lambasted moves which will mean the new the Tobacco Products Directive will see the EU being on track to miss its 2040 smoke-free goal by 70 years.
