Pouches Can Prevent Disease

A major new report by international health experts reveals how safer nicotine alternatives could be the most effective new weapon in the fight against oral disease that afflicts almost 4 billion people worldwide. The report by the Oral Nicotine Commission presents clinical, toxicological and population-level evidence demonstrating that oral nicotine pouches are a tobacco-free, combustion-free alternative to cigarettes that can both reduce oral disease and help smokers to quit their deadly habit.

Parliament Matters

In this special Christmas edition of our coverage from Parliament, James Cleverly is still obsessed with town centre planning, Kevin Hollinrake still thinking about pubs and Sadik Al-Hassan worries about drugs. What makes this a special Christmas edition? The banner image. The banner image couldn’t be more Christmassy.

The Rise of the Pouch

Use of nicotine pouches has risen substantially in Great Britain over the last five years, particularly among young men, with one in 13 (7.5%) men aged 16 to 24 now using them, according to a new study led by researchers at University College London (UCL). Data released this week shows that here are now half a million people using nicotine pouches in England, Scotland and Wales.

UKVIA Responds to Evidence Call

The UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) has responded to the Department for Health and Social Care’s call for evidence in relation to the government’s Tobacco & Vapes Bill. UKVIA says the submission is the result of working intensively with its members “to produce a detailed, evidence-led response”.

New Zealand is Punished for Success

New Zealand has been punished for achieving exactly what the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) treaty has mandated, says a leading harm reduction advocate. While the World Health Organization (WHO) FCTC secretariat punished New Zealand, evidence-based harm reduction leaders at ASH NZ received an international award for success.
