Vaping to Overtake Smoking

Vaping set to overtake smoking for the first time in the United Kingdom. The UK has seen the number of people who smoke fall by nearly 50% in the two decades since vapes entered the marketplace. Research shows more people are set to vape than smoke by 2025 as consumers switch to the readily available safer nicotine product and Government support for vaping “showcases the power of tobacco harm reduction to bring down smoking rates”.

Ban Is A Blow To Public Health

The New Zealand government’s proposed ban on closed vaping systems is set to undermine years of progress in tobacco harm reduction, according to a scathing submission by the Coalition of Asia Pacific Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates (CAPHRA).

Half of vape users ‘likely’ to start smoking again due to new ban

Ali Anderson

More than half of vape users in the UK are “likely” to return to smoking because of the proposed vaping ban, a new survey reveals.

A survey of over 1000 vapers shows that a massive 85 per cent are former cigarette smokers. Due to the proposed vaping ban, 52 per cent fear they may revert back to the deadly habit.

NRT maker Kenvue calls for more restrictions on safer nicotine products

Alastair Cohen

Nicorette manufacturer Kenvue, which was spun off from Johnson and Johnson last year, has used a sponsored lobbying event in Brussels to call for further restrictions on safer nicotine products like vapes and pouches.

Hannah French, the company’s Vice President for Self Care, called for the EU to urgently review its tobacco control legislation as part of a “branded spotlight” at the Parliament Magazine’s Health Summit.

It’s not illogical for vapers to follow populists. That should be a wakeup call for the centre left.

Peter Beckett

Donald Trump says vapers should back him because he “saved flavoured vaping in 2019” and he will do it again. Why has the centre left decided it doesn’t want vapers in its coalition?

For historical accuracy, Trump partially saved flavoured vaping from himself. It was his administration that announced a flavour ban in September 2019, only to walk bits of it back because his campaign team were worried that it might cost him votes.

Vape Company Lawsuit Charges FDA Fines Are Unconstitutional

Jim McDonald, Vaping 360

A California-based online vape retailer has filed a lawsuit challenging the FDA Center for Tobacco Products’ right to impose so-called Civil Money Penalties (fines) through administrative proceedings.

The retailer, Huff and Puffers LLC of Garden Grove, says the fines allowed under provisions of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (of which the Tobacco Control Act is a part) are unconstitutional because they violate the company’s right to a jury trial.

With Over 20 Million Adult U.S. Vapers

Now Is Time for Federal Agencies to Recognize Harm Reduction
Lindsey Stroud

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently updated its Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Systems (BRFSS) survey. The annual survey measures various lifestyle indicators among adults aged 18 and over including demographics (including age and race), dietary and physical activities, substance use, combustible cigarette, and vapor product use.
