Doncaster Collecting Vapes at the Kerb
Approximately many years after Planet of the Vapes said it was a good idea, Doncaster has launched a kerbside collection for vapes and household batteries. Residents in the city can now recycle their vapes, which contain lithium-ion cells, and household batteries through their kerbside bin collections “in a move intended to reduce fires and make recycling easier for residents”.
EU Plan Attacked
The European Commission’s newly published Safe Hearts Plan promises to tackle Europe’s cardiovascular burden. Instead of using harm reduction as a prevention and smoking cessation aid, it singles out safer nicotine products as part of the problem rather than the solution. This omission guarantees failure, says the World Vapers’ Alliance.

In Minnesota, We Refuse to Apply Harm Reduction to Tobacco Use
Kim “Skip” Murray
Minnesota has a reputation as a national leader in both tobacco control and harm reduction. But as 2026 approaches, and after decades of watching policies unfold, I find myself asking where exactly Minnesota’s government is leading us in the nicotine space.
I love living here, as my family has done since the 1800s. My memories are full of lakes and forests, and the stick-to-your-ribs, warm-your-soul hotdishes that appear at every community potluck.
“If safer alternatives can save lives, what responsibility do we have to science, to fairness and to the people we serve?”
Suely Castro put that question to an audience at the United Kingdom’s Parliament in London. Hosted by the nonprofit she founded, Quit Like Sweden, the December 4 event examined the implications of Sweden’s approach to tobacco harm reduction: making safer nicotine products “acceptable, affordable and accessible.”
Swedes have ditched cigarettes in favor of oral snus and nicotine pouches on a large scale, and by 2025, this had brought Sweden’s smoking rate down to just 5.31 percent—the lowest in the world.
Switching from cigarettes to vapes improved heart and lung measures in COPD trial
Ali Anderson, Clearing The Air
Two weeks of vaping instead of smoking did not make any heart or lung test results worse in people with COPD.
Diastolic blood pressure (the “bottom number”) was lower after the vaping phase than after the smoking phase.
In people who really stuck to vaping and stopped cigarettes, a key measure of airway resistance in the lungs improved.
Overall, the results suggest vapes could be a less harmful option than cigarettes for people with COPD who can’t or don’t want to stop nicotine completely.

FDA Authorizes First Nicotine Pouches Under Fast-Track Program
Jim McDonald, Vaping 360
The FDA announced last Friday it has authorized U.S. sales of six on! PLUS nicotine pouch products. The authorizations are the first granted under a recently announced FDA Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) pilot program intended to speed review of select nicotine pouches.
The FDA authorized three flavors of on! PLUS pouches in two nicotine strengths—6 mg and 9 mg—but has not granted permission to sell the 12 mg strength. Altria submitted premarket tobacco applications (PMTAs) for all three nicotine strengths in June 2024.
February 10, 2026: Roundtable on Premarket Tobacco Product Application (PMTA) Submissions for Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) Products
Center For Tobacco Products Newsroom (CPT), U.S. Food And Drug Administration
Meeting Overview
The purpose of the roundtable is to provide small tobacco product manufacturers (fewer than 350 employees) an opportunity to share their experiences and perspectives on the PMTA process and to offer feedback on how FDA can improve efficiency and streamline PMTA reviews. The topics to be discussed will include certain components of PMTAs such as product characterization, manufacturing controls, pharmacological profile (e.g., pharmacokinetic studies), studies of adult benefit (e.g., longitudinal cohort/randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies), and toxicological profile (e.g., estimated lifetime cancer risk).
Possible Glas MGO Emerges as Juul Files ITC Suit
Timothy S. Donahue, Nicotine Insider
Information surfaced on Dec. 20 indicating that Los Angeles–based e-cigarette company Glas may be about to receive marketing granted orders (MGOs) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, though the agency has not issued a formal announcement and the products do not yet appear in its searchable authorized products database.
A screenshot circulating on social media showed one Glas device and five associated pods listed on what appeared to be an FDA e-cigarette authorization document dated December 2025. It was first reported by nicotine industry attorney Gregory Conley on his X profile (@GregTHR).
Global Forum on Nicotine 2025 Closing remarks by David Sweanor
Global Forum on Nicotine
A powerful closing address from David Sweanor, a pioneering public health lawyer, delivered at the 12th Global Forum on Nicotine (GFN). In this concluding keynote, he reflects on the diverse perspectives within the tobacco harm reduction community, the challenges posed by opposition to new technologies, and the global momentum toward reduced-risk nicotine products. David highlights historical patterns of resistance to innovation, the importance of genuine public health principles, and the accelerating shift away from combustible cigarettes worldwide. An inspiring call to action for advocates, researchers, consumers, and industry leaders working toward a smoke-free future.
A look back at how things have moved on or otherwise…
Mr Butler, your pants are on fire
Colin Mendelsohn
SORRY TO BE BLUNT MR BUTLER, but your pants are on fire. The talking points you keep repeating about youth vaping are simply not evidence-based and are patently wrong.
This blog challenges seven of your most often repeated falsehoods. Previous fact checks on your past porkies are here, here and here.
Rapid decline in youth smoking
Colin Mendelsohn
The Australian Secondary Students’ Alcohol and Drug Survey (ASSAD) released yesterday found that only 2.1% of 12-17-year-olds smoked in the past week in 2022-23, compared to 4.9% in the previous survey in 2017.
Youth smoking has declined by about 10% per year since the 2017 survey after vaping became popular. In comparison, the decline in smoking was 3.5% per year from 1996 to 2017.
