WHO Closing Off Oversight
The World Health Organization (WHO) is barricading the public from its tobacco control conference as registration barriers reach “insane” levels, according to the Coalition of Asia Pacific Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates (CAPHRA). The consumer organisation slammed the WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) for erecting deliberate barriers to prevent public participation in the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP11) scheduled for November in Geneva.
UKVIA Responds to High Street Proposal
Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer’s “Pride in Place” programme proposals has been branded “seriously flawed” by the UK Vaping Industry Association. The UK’s biggest vape trade body says that plans to allow local residents to block new high street vape shops will drive former smokers back to cigarettes.
Favourite Quit Smoking Methods
With the UK government’s goal of becoming smoke-free by 2030 and a 92% surge in searches for “how to quit smoking” in the past two weeks, it’s clear that quitting is top of mind for many Brits. New research from Vape Superstore reveals the most popular methods ex-smokers are using to kick the habit.
ASH On Misperceptions
In July, anti-smoking charity Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) spoke out about the rampant misinformation and misunderstanding about vapes and the relative safety of vaping. It said its new data uncovered “a public health disconnect”. Last week, it demanded vape products were placed in plain packaging – a move that will feed this public health disconnect. We look back at what the charity said at the time.
Vape Raid Unearths Drugs in Snodland
Thousands of illegal nicotine products have been seized in successful Trading Standards raids on retail premises in the north and the south of Kent. The activity followed tip-offs from the general public. Officers seized illegal cigarettes, tobacco, and vape products.
