This video is about smoking, mental health and tobacco harm reduction. People who have a psychiatric diagnosis answer a series of questions about smoking.

Science Lesson: Vapor Droplets Are NOT Particles

Carl V. Phillips, The Daily Vaper

There has been a recent resurgence in fearmongering propaganda about e-cigarette vapor exposing vapers and bystanders to “particles.” Anyone with a middle-school level understanding of science can see why this is nonsense. It is really quite simple: Inhaling some kinds of solid particles can cause harm, even when the chemicals in them are harmless, but nothing similar is true for the liquid droplets produced by e-cigarettes.

Nicotine In The News: Harry’s blog 39: A future without fags?

Harry Shapiro, Nicotine In The News

An economic forecasting company has estimated that if smoking in the UK declines at the current rate, nobody will be smoking by around 2050. Frontier Economics predicts that:

1. Our central forecast is for the Government to meet its smoke-free target – to reduce smoking prevalence to 5% or below of England’s adult population – around 2040. This forecast is based on a continuation of current above-inflation excise increases and known regulatory interventions.

2.  If smoking then continued to decline at the same rate after 2040, it would reach 0% in around 2051.

3. Smoking is in long-run decline, but since 2012 it has declined at more than twice the rate seen between 1993 and 2011. Smokers switching to e-cigarettes appear to have made a material contribution to that recent trend.

You will not believe what has taken over Gloucester’s Quit Smoking Shop

Ed Stilliard, GloucesterLive

For years it helped people quit smoking but now it will be helping people take up another habit. A vacant city centre shop which helped people to kick the habit reopened on Saturday as a vaping shop. The Gloucester Quit Stop Shop was the destination for those who wanted to stub it out, but now they will have another source of temptation.

Another UK vape company falls into the hands of Big Tobacco

Vaped, Totally Wicked

We previously brought you Big Tobacco’s Vaping Creep, which exposed the intrusion into the e-cigarette industry from the world’s largest tobacco companies. British American Tobacco (BAT), Phillip Morris International (PMI) and Imperial Brands were a few of the tobacco powerhouses that had acquired independent vape companies in order to gain a foothold in the e-cigarette industry.

UK Teen Smoking Hits Record Low

Mawsley, Planet Of The Vapes
Pouring more cold water on the notion that vaping encourages teens to smoke, the NHS adds to overwhelming evidence that electronic cigarettes are aiding record lows in teenage smoking rates. The Government wishes to reduce teen smoking levels among to 3% or lower by the end of 2022, and the latest figures lend hope to that aim.

2017 Vaping Policies in UK Councils Report from The Freedom Association’s Freedom to Vape Campaign

Andrew Allison, The Freedom Association (PDF File)
In November 2016, we published a groundbreaking report looking at the vaping policies of all UK councils. We have done the same again this year to see if any councils have changed their policies as a result of advice from the Public Health England (PHE) which was included in the Government’s Tobacco Control Plan.

ALP’s blanket ban on vapers in smoke-free spaces could do more harm than good

Colin Mendelsohn, The Sydney Morning Herald

The proposal by NSW Labor to introduce a blanket ban on personal vaporisers, also known as e-cigarettes, in smoke-free areas is not justified on health grounds and could do more harm than good. Unlike second-hand smoke, exhaled vapour carries minimal risk to health. According to Britain’s Royal College of Physicians: “The risk of harm from vapour exposure to bystanders is negligible.”

Dateline 2018: A Storm Is Coming

Dick Puddlecote

I’ve been home for just a couple of hours after a particularly revealing week in India for the COP7 conference, and I have to say I’m feeling quite smug.

Long-term readers here will remember that I’ve been writing for nearly six years now about how e-cigs have the capacity to show up the tobacco control industry for the corrupt, self-perpetuating, anti-social, health-be-damned gravy train that it has been since the early 1970s. This week has proved that hypothesis 100% correct.

COP7 – A View from Outside

Sarah Jakes – New Nicotine Alliance

Transparency was on the agenda at COP7, apparently there were concerns after COP6, but (almost) unbelievably, what they achieved was to make it less transparent than ever before.

Prior to COP7 I asked the UK department of health what the problem was with allowing the media and the public, including the tobacco companies, to observe (not participate) and report on the negotiations that go on there….
